Also called the Surgical Abortion
Before any procedure is done in our office, all patients will undergo an ultrasound, and lab testing to check the patient’s health status. A medical history will be recorded, the procedure will be explained, along with risks complications and alternatives.
Any patient who is medically stable will be offered twilight sedation. This is medication that takes away pain, and relaxes the patient for the procedure. The abortion procedure will be performed by a MD using the vacuum aspiration method. The patient must spend time in the recovery area and have a ride home after the procedure.
The patient may go back to her normal routine the following day with minimal restrictions. Each patient will return to our office for a follow-up visit in 2-3 weeks.

Medical Abortion (RU486)
The Abortion pill consists of a series of pills taken to induce an abortion. The patient must be very early in her pregnancy to use this method. Most women start to bleed and cramp within 1-2 days after taking the first of the pills . The bleeding will be like a heavy period . The patient will experience cramping. Other symptoms include nausea, diarrhea, feeling tired, dizzy or feverish.
The abortion pill does not work all of the time, so each woman must return to the office for follow up care to insure that the pill did work. If the pill fails, the woman must have the surgical abortion done.
